Events2go – Lift Conferences: Diverse, Communitarian and Bottom-Up

If you are a frequent visitor to our blog, you've probably already watched Viktoria’s interview with the founder and CEO of Lift Conference Laurent Haug. Laurent started Lift in 2006 and turned it into a sucess story: A diverse, communitarian and bottom-up conference that has been called "one of the highlights of the technophile calendar" and is attended by more than 700 people from around the world - entrepreneurs, artists, managers, researchers, investors, CEOs, designers and ethnologists.

Lift has grown from a local conference into a series of three events happening in Swiss Geneva, in Marseille, France, and in South Korea. If you missed Lift09 and Lift France 09, hop on a plane and fly to Korea in September: Lift Asia 09 will be happening in Jeju Island on September 17 and 18 and will be all about "Serious Fun". Lift has lowered the entry prize to a quite palatable €200 to make the event more accessible! For those of you planning to participate in 2010, please note that Lift France will be taking place in February, Lift Geneva in May whereas Lift Asia will still be happening in September.

Tiburon-TV is in the middle of posting Viktoria’s interviews from Lift France 09 on our blog - so please come back soon, it’s definitely worth it! We’ll be publishing interviews with Gunter Pauli and Bertrand Copigneaux as well as lots of inspiring presentations and will prove to you that Lift is an opportunity to meet up with some of the most interesting people around - like „the father of the Internet“ Vint Cerf who gave the closing talk of Lift09...

Ambassador marketing with SMABOO: Adrian Locher @ LIFT09

You want to know the guy who realized the market entry of Facebook in the German speaking market: its Adrian Locher. With his agency SMABOO, he created a word of mouth effects through his ambassador marketing strategy for German facebook.

He especially recommends that strategies for companies with already strong brands, cause he will activate already existing clients or users and turn them into active ambassadors for the products of even the whole company.

If you as a startup want to create such effects you should find your best and your heavy users and get in contact with them. "Make them part of your marketing strategy".

Started in Switzerland, Adrians agency soon moved to Berlin, cause of it's huge creativity, availability of human resources and the cheapness of resources.

Check out more interviews realized at the great LIFT conference Geneva, Switzerland in February this year.

Benedikt Foit & Cornelius Rabsch – Tagcrumbs: Places worth remembering @ Lift09

Finally a startup whose founders met at the Lift conference (Lift08): Social placemarking company Tagcrumbs.com - founded by Benedikt Foit, Cornelius Rabsch and Sascha Konietzke. The three young Germans are studying and working in Paris, Ireland and Germany. As „business guy“ Ben puts it „Tagcrumbs allows you to discover those little things that might give you interesting information about the places you visit and share them with your friends, family and the world. You can build a mini community of people you know and recommend places you care about.“ Tagcrumbs will soon be moved from the web to more mobile platforms: „In the end it should be an address book on the go“, says Ben „whenever you are somewhere, someone shows you around a city and you hear stories, you can just tag it real quick. Since people are often looking for conversation starters, here you go... ;)" According to product developer Cornelius, Tagcrumbs already has „a running prototype for the iPhone application. We will be working on it in the months to come - that’s a big step for us.“ When it comes to revenue models, „there’s obviously highly targeted mobile advertisement“, notes Ben „but also a couple of interesting things going on with API users, paid mobile apps or possibilities to integrate our service into other sites. That’s a little bit a thing of the future, but I think we’ll get there.“ „More feedback, more users, more places focussing on big cities and cooperations with magazines“ are all goals for 2009 - as Cornelius points out - but first of all „pushing the iPhone app to the next steps and following our roadmap for API use cases with vertical applications.“ More interviews from LIFT09 can be found @ www.tiburon-tv.com

Lucien Burm – Kimengi: More and more interested readers @ Lift09

Kimengi.com, founded by Dutch entrepreneur Lucien Burm, is providing a „short widget based recommendation technology“ called f»dforward. Lucien explains: „You insert a widget in your blog and it creates recommendations automatically for your own website. You can tell which other blogs you like and start recommending them on your pages – and they can recommend you as well. It’s a bit Twitter-like, following people and blogs.“ According to Lucien, Kimengi will not only grow your own blog network, but serve you more and more interested readers. It provides you with information tools that „make you write more and better stuff“ by offering insight into what other subjects your readers are interested in – today, this week, last month. Furthermore, Kimengi is about to build „a very new recommendation engine, a bigger thing that takes more time“. Lucien points out that „very personal and real-time recommendations are difficult to do on a large scale.“ Other than content-focussed Semanta, Kimengi has „the network thing that they don’t have“ says Lucien „on the other hand we don’t provide tools to get your Flickr pictures on a certain kind of subject.“ After having tested Kimengi with some tens of blogs in Holland, Lucien reveals „some very rudimentary figures“: „15% of people that have been served recommendations follow them. We found that quite high and were not expecting it.“ Kimengi is a „free service for blogs forever“ says Lucien and hopes to monetize its technology by providing the same kind of tools on corporate websites. Holm Friebe & Philipp Albers – Zentrale Intelligenz Agentur @ Lift09

Philipp Albers, Agent @ Berlin-based Zentrale Intelligenz Agentur, defines the company as „a network for freelancers of various areas. Originality is key for us - we take ideas, look at them and make something different out of it by putting them in a different context.“

One of the unique formats developed by the agency and spread all over the world is „Powerpoint Karaoke“: „Powerpoint presentations you don’t know beforehand have to be presented in front of an audience in Berlin clubs“ explains CEO Holm Friebe and adds „trying to buff one’s way through presentations is a great group development and team building tool we use in our client work.“

Zentrale Intelligenz Agentur is also picking up the symptoms of self-empowerment, self-organization and the new crafting movement by writing non-fiction books, i.e. „Marke Eigenbau“ („Brand: Self-made“). Holm says „times of economic crises are good for people to work on new ideas and to start small enterprises. Technology is democratized by low prices and there are great possibilities to market one’s product.“

Holm finds it crucial, „to keep fix costs low, since this is not the time to acquire huge budgets“ and adds „don’t let the money spoil everything!“ Whereas Philipp advices: „Focus on what you are interested in instead of focussing on what the market wants.“
