Let's look back to the talk the future conference, there so many interesting theories like exaflood, wikinomics or enterprise 2.0 had been discussed, providing us with insights about happening changes and giving us ideas how to use that for business success. So what is the exaflood of Bret Swanson about? He says that the amounts of data in the Internet are incredibly increasing. Did you know that 75 video conferencing calls would equal the entire US Internet traffic of 1990? For an first idea about his thoughts you may have seen the interview, published a few weeks ago. But you want to learn more? Watch the video of his whole presentation and see the astonishing number comparisons which Bret provides to illustrate the changes.
There is a huge discussion out there, whether the Internet is running out of bandwidth or not. In the same time the New York Times opens up a different kind of discussion. The dependency of the Internet traffic going through certain network points. As the Internet was developed in the US almost all traffic went through US connections too. While growing to a global data network the US looses its competitive advantage and also the control. The importance of the dependency issue was shown during the fight of Georgia with Russia, when several Georgian government Web sites had been attacked by hackers. As most of Georgia’s access to the Intnert is flowing through Russia and Turkey it might be obvious where that attack came from. So the independence issue is a quite concerning one for several countries, which lets the global data network continue to crow providing all different kind of connections. talkthefuture08 The presentation of Bret Swanson was held at the talk the future conference 'the future of work and business', in Krems, Austria on September 6th, 2008.
